Dentures and Bridges

Bethel Dental Dentures and BridgesThe loss of multiple teeth is more than just an aesthetic misfortune. While teeth do look great in a smile, they also serve as a most necessary component of your facial structure and lifestyle! When multiple teeth are missing, the skin of the face sags, eating and speaking habits are compromised, and even jawbone loss can occur. We offer restorative solutions to replace those missing teeth and the confidence that went with them.

Dentures

Dentures are a set of artificial teeth that appear and act just like natural teeth. They can be used for eating and speaking, but are also removable when necessary. Today’s advancements have made dentures much more comfortable for everyday use.

Custom dentures are made using measurements taken from your own jaws, so the fit is natural and exact. With proper care, cleaning, and maintenance, a set of dentures will last for many years.

We guarantee our partials as we do our crowns – indefinitely. Therefore, we recommend only the brands that use the best precision technology, with stress breakers to allow for natural movement. This technology results in almost no breakage, and this type of attachment can be easily adjusted for retention, etc.  One preferred brand is Bredent.

Bridges

When only one or a few artificial teeth are needed, a dental bridge can provide a more permanent solution. Bridges can be affixed firmly into place for results that are very realistic.

Just like any other custom appliance, an impression of your mouth and teeth will need to be taken in order to fabricate replacement teeth of the perfect size and shape. Once the artificial teeth are ready, they will be cemented into place using the two surrounding teeth as anchors.

The artificial teeth may be porcelain, fused to high noble white metal, or they may be zirconia, which is synthetic diamond. Our preferred brand is Lava™ Zirconia by 3M

In order to guarantee the longevity of your artificial teeth, make sure to brush and floss routinely and maintain regular dental checkups.

Dental Implants

Bethel Dental ImplantsThe loss of a tooth can be a great blow to your self esteem and day-to-day life. Not only can missing teeth affect one’s appearance, but can also negatively affect eating habits and facial bone structure.

Fortunately, great advancements in prosthodontics have made it possible to permanently replace missing teeth with dental implants.

The Dental Implant Process

Dr. Strait performs the entire implant procedure in his office, unless the case requires a sophisticated sinus lift or onlay bone grafting. In those cases, we will refer you to one of two other highly skilled oral surgeons.

Once a tooth has been completely removed, the first step in placing a dental implant is to install a root-like titanium screw directly into the jawbone. This screw is given sufficient time to fuse with the jawbone and surrounding tissues. When this process is complete, the screw acts just like the roots of a tooth and holds the replacement firmly in place.

When Dr. Strait has determined that the screw has healed into place, a small post or abutment can be attached. This will provide an anchor for your replacement tooth. A new artificial tooth will be produced using a custom mold taken of your mouth. The color, size, and shape of the new tooth will match your original teeth very closely, so you can feel confident in your restored smile.

Dental Implant System

We now offer the most advanced implant technology available, Ankylos by Dentsply, because this is the first system that guarantees the stability, longevity, permanent aesthetics, and periodontal health of the implant, by preventing any bone loss or ditching (wear) of the bone around its base.

We also provide mini implants and implant dentures.

Care of Your Dental Implants

Once the dental implant has been placed and healed properly, it will serve you with the same strength and integrity as a natural tooth. Care for it as you care for all of your teeth, with regular brushing and flossing.

Dental Crowns

Bethel Dental CrownsA dental crown does exactly what its name suggests; it forms a “cap” or crown over the original tooth.

This cap emulates the real tooth in every way, from its natural-looking appearance to its long-lasting strength.

When is a Crown Needed?

A few of the circumstances that would call for a crown placement would include:

  • To cover the damage left behind from extensive decay
  • Protecting a cracked or broken tooth from further injury
  • After a restorative or surgical procedure such as a root canal
  • To provide support for a bridge attachment
  • To cover dental implants
  • As a cosmetic procedure to cover a misshapen or discolored tooth

How it Works

In order to build a crown that matches your smile, we will take an impression of your teeth. This will provide the mold that our dental lab will use to fabricate a custom ceramic crown to blend in aesthetically with its neighbors. The color and fit will also be customized so that the finished result will be almost indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

The impaired tooth is prepared and reduced to the correct size and then used as an anchor for the finished crown.

We do not fabricate restorations here in the office, because we find these types to be inferior to properly made lab restorations. One reason is that none of the following special procedures can be accomplished with an in-office machine:

  • Customizing the color at the gingival
  • Special placement of porcelain to create translucency
  • Adding detailed customized anatomy
  • Staining

Crown Materials

At our dental office, we use these materials for crowns:

  • Empress Porcelain
  • E-max
  • 3M Lava- Porcelain fused to customized color zirconia
  • Porcelain fused to high noble metal(83% gold)

No crowns are made with all-metal or porcelain-fused-to-low-noble or non-precious metal, since the failure rate is high, and we guarantee our crowns for life!

Caring for your Crown

A dental crown behaves just like one of your original teeth and so should be treated with the same care. Brushing and flossing regularly will prevent plaque from building up at the base of the crown. It is also recommended that you avoid chewing on hard substances such as ice and avoid clenching or grinding. These activities can shorten the lifespan of any tooth. (If you grind your teeth while sleeping, a night guard may be advisable.)

Tooth Fillings, Inlays & Onlays

Bethel Dental Composite FillingsDental fillings are one of the most common procedures we perform here at Bethel Dental Associates. Many patients arrive with minor damage to their teeth such as decay or small tooth fractures. These issues can be quickly remedied with restorative dentistry techniques.

Even though they can be prevented with careful brushing and flossing, sometimes cavities do happen. If you find that a cavity has formed on one of your teeth, don’t worry! As long as it is caught early, we can remove the cavity cleanly and fill the small hole left behind with white glass-filled composites. We use only the best composites for durability and perfect color-matching. The filling will seal the opening to protect the tooth from future decay and sensitivity. Minor fractures can be treated in the same way.

Inlays & Onlays

In some cases, your dentist may choose to place an inlay or onlay on the affected tooth.

Both the inlay and the onlay techniques involve the use of composite materials that are custom-made to fit your tooth. The material will be sculpted into the exact shape required, and then bonded permanently over the damaged areas. The finished product will look natural and prevent further pain or damage.

This technique is referred to as an inlay when the bonded material is applied into the inner part of the tooth, while an onlay is used when the restoration covers an outer area or edge of the tooth. Both procedures use the same materials and general technique. In our office, we use E-Max material for inlays and onlays.
